Fall 2015 CR meme!

Hey all, the time has come for a new CR meme! You can list new characters here, characters you're thinking of playing, or characters that are already in the game that you want to seek out new opportunities for!

Also remember that our current test drive is still on-going, and you can see about putting anything you come up with here into motion there as well!

Character: Nathan Brooks
Pre-Incarnation: Near (Nate River)
Location(s): Shepherd's Haven

Description: Near was an extremely reclusive and co-dependent detective who was raised to succeed L, the world's greatest.

Nathan is . . . also very reclusive, but actually capable of looking after himself to some degree. While he prefers to live a quiet life, he can't exactly ignore everything that's happening now. He's a timid sort, and all of his skills lend him to more of a support and information-gathering kind of role. (Hey, his preincarnation was a detective, what else to you expect?)
Pre-Numbered CR Opportunities: I've kept his core family very small, but I'm not opposed to slightly more distant relations. Anyone who grew up or worked in poorer areas of Locke might have had a chance to meet him. He also briefly (from about late September 2014 to around the end of February 2015) worked a very boring data entry job at somewhere I never specified.
Open/Wanted CR: Nathan has a lot of supportive people in his life, which is great for him because good god does he need a support network, and I'd never say no to more, but . . . Someone needs to steamroll this poor doormat. Nathan doesn't have a lot of confidence and has trouble asserting himself. He's a prime target for this kind of treatment.
Hooks: Nathan is an intellectual, so any discussion of just how something works or trying to figure out what something means will get his attention. He . . . also has his preincarnation's obsession with children's toys, so he's pretty into that. Especially robots. He mostly is in and around Shepherd's Haven and the surrounding towns, because . . . Well, as I said, he's reclusive.
Plans/ongoing plots: I don't have much in the way of concrete plans, but he's one of the folks who was contacted by the informant about Thundercorp's intentions. And he is very concerned about this. As a character arc, I really want him to develop some more courage and self-confidence. But that's a long road.
Anything Else?: No, really, he's 20. Pay no attention to his lack of height, baby-face, and the robot action figures he swoops around.

Let's do more bonding Nathan and Tony should be closer imo.

Totally need more bonding. Was just a little tough this past month because Tony felt the need to try and leave the family behind. :(

Yes sob. He's just having a bad time of things he doesn't mean to be a jerk.

Nathan knows, Tony. That's why he agreed when Jacob said you're a good guy. But yes, bonding. Over something happy for a change, because wow, these boys.

Soooob. Yeah they need something a little less traumatic. If only Tony knew how to say he's not okay when he's not okay before it turns into a problem?

They're all bad at that, let's be real. The question is . . . what good things can they bond over?

Well. We will not discuss Tony's coping mechanism because it is a very unhealthy habit. But I was actually thinking of having his relived echo be something hilarious instead of sad.

So maybe Nathan can wander in on that and share in the sheer absurdity that is Tony's other?

They can be adorably confused together

In fairness, Near can say some incredibly weird things. In the anime where he says, "What I can determine is this: Light Yagami is popular with the ladies." To compare, in the manga we get . . .

Near: What this proves is . . . Light Yagami is a ladykiller.

*silence*

Rester: Near, seriously . . .

He wasn't even trying to make a joke, man. He was analyzing the relationships and factoring them in when he formulated strategies. I don't think he even realized how that sounded. Busy with serious plans, here.

Okay, we talked about this a long time ago, but then I think everyone was tripping over StE Endgame, and...

Saretha and Nathan is some CR I still totally want. :0

So much yes to this; I was gonna poke at you for this anyway, but you beat me to it. :D

And yeah, we got majorly distracted by endgame. They just have the one "on-screen" interaction where he took her up on her offer to attempt to evacuate loved ones of the Numbered.

One of the few things that Lazarus feels a deep connection with his Other over is an instinct to feel like Nathan/Near is the future and must be treated as such. I think that Lazarus feels more affection and protectiveness toward him, though, especially in the context of him being part of his new "family." This could result in some unintentional steamrolling (and maybe already has depending on how Nathan reacts to his intense protectiveness.) I think the streak has gotten stronger since Tony took off and he feels like he needs to be more than a surrogate big brother to him, but almost more like a father/Watari figure.

Whether it does more good or harm, I want Lazarus to have a hand in his personal growth!

Lazarus will no doubt have a hand in it all. There's no question about it. Nathan hasn't got a problem with the protectiveness right now, what with coming off that horrible Echo and then subsequently seeing the Thundercorp informant die, but if it persists too long, even Nathan might start feeling a little stifled.

Yay for there being no question! But I would love to see that protectiveness get stifling and give Nathan a reason to ask/tell/demand that he back off. Maybe it could get him started on growing his own backbone.

Hey, he's one of the most important people in Nathan's life. Of course he's going to have a hand in how he grows. Nathan getting the guts to tell anybody to ease off would be pretty big, especially when it's a person he cares about. And getting backbone could lead to him investigating things on his own sometimes . . .

He's important, but he's also an obsessive-compulsive control freak in the most literal possible sense. If he's not told to back off, he won't until he's practically sitting on Nathan. I have a good feeling about this for his eventual growth toward something more resembling independence!

ARE THEY STILL GOING FOR RUNS EVERY MORNING? Even if that's not the case, I'm sure that Nux is trying his hardest to get Nathan out the door for it. He probably also wants to introduce him to the weight room in the rec building.

Definitely not every morning. Nathan can't handle that. Nux probably gets him out a couple times a week at best. Oh god the weight room. Nathan would do his damnedest to beg that off.

Well at least he's getting slightly more fit by merit of those occasional runs. XD Nux is so thrilled about that, man, and there are totally baby weights. He wants to start him on his gainz, no matter how much begging.

He cannot take a goddamn hint.
